History and Development
The JUCE library was created by Julian Storer. Until late 2014 JUCE was essentially a one-man endeavour, having evolved from utility classes that began coalescing back in 2001, as a spin-off from the development of various audio applications such as Tracktion.
The library was first open-sourced in 2003, and has been sold commercially since 2005. JUCE was originally licenced by Raw Material Software Ltd, of which Jules was the owner and sole developer.
In 2014 ROLI Ltd, a design-led music technology company, acquired Raw Material Software and JUCE. Jules joined ROLI as Head of Software Architecture, and remains in charge of JUCE development. The only change is that now he is assisted by ROLI's operations and developer teams, constantly working to improve the JUCE experience for its users.
